Congratulations. I like the guitar player. You can find many threads relative to busking here. I think one is entitled Busker's Corner. Stories of busking and videos are posted. Have fun.
Welcome to the club! People love the slide! You don't hear it that often walking around. You will do well with that guitarist, I reckon. It's important to keep a good groove, even on the slow songs. "Keep it danceable" is one of my mantras. Alternate slow sad soulful and upbeat tunes. It's good to change pace for variety.
While your guy can sing, if you don't sing yourself, start. It will add a bit of variety and is a good skill to have. As Dr Gussow says, it is a good idea to put a bit of "seed money" in the tip bucket so people know how much is acceptable to donate. Get a card with your details so people can hire you for parties or whatever. Make a sign and a name for your duo. I have noticed people often donate when they read our sign which says "Investment Buskers. Brought to you by the GFC." People have a chuckle and might take a photo. Playing outdoor "gigs" is a good way to get indoor gigs. You never know who listening. That middle-aged lady walking by might be the event coordinator for a company and digs your sound. The hippie might be a bar manager who has been put in charge of music at his venue. I have gotten good gigs this way. Above all. Have fun!
