Seems to be an awful lot of material in front of the speakers in this design. You're blocking a lot of square inches! Without the benefit of testing, I believe that will cut down on efficiency in the bass range and projection in the higher frequencies.

Greg,

Actually, it will be moving more sound out less space which will increase the force with which it exits the amplifier. Rudimentary high school science, really :D

ridge, that may be physics but it is not psychoacoustics. Greg is right.

I thought my smiley face was enough, but I'll add that my above post was meant only to be funny. I know nothing about this topic.

Ridge - we're not talking hydraulics here. In the case of air, there's going to be a lot of friction and a lot of sound energy will simply be lost to that.

If that is right, then removing the fabric in front of the speaker on any amp should give the amp more clarity/volume/proyection??

Grill fabric is chosen for having more sonic transparency that other fabrics. Removing the grill on a good amp might get you a little bump in highs but I doubt it would be something your audience can hear from a blues harp.

There are so many forces involved here. Greg, you are wrong in so many ways. But anyway, the perceptible difference is negligible. If anything this one is darker.

Just saw a photo of LSC's Mergili amp in 'weird amp' thread. Lot of cab in front of that speaker too

I'm with Greg and Rick on this one. I worked for an audio installation company years ago and we had some strange requests with custom speaker boxes. Cones and diaphragms are shaped so precisely to give the best output. Blocking 40-60% of the face of a speaker is bound to effect the sound (specially the high frequency sounds). If you were making a bass amp, I PERSONALLY wouldn't worry too much with the low frequency sounds.

Anyways. Nice design and craftsmanship.

The overall amplitude may be diminished some here, but not by that much. The high freq will be more affected but not projected out. The bass freq will be less affected

Thanks, Jared
