I would say this isn't "modern blues" as we've been discussing it, but rather a digital deconstruction of a traditional blues motif. A modern or contemporary style , I would think, is an updating of forms that already exist but employing more recent ideas that reflect the zeitgeist--the spirit and style--of the current period. Modern though it may be, it would sound organic, of a piece; beat box renditions and inspirations employing a predominant blues pattern would be an organic expression, high lighting the human agency , the human heart, behind the performance. Though I like this piece, it seems more like an audio artist taking a track apart and abstracting it by chopping it up, overlaying other sounds, creating a musical that is more impression than expression. This is nearly an academic excercise since it's locked into a post-modern loop of reflecting on it's own form. That makes it dry and brittle to an extent. Blues is about the expression of what a singer-musician is going through and this leaves me with only the memory of bleets, blorts and gerbile torture after it plays through. ---------- Ted Burke http://www.youtube.com/user/TheoBurke?feature=mhee
