I just picked up a Low F Suzuki Pure Harp from Rockin Ron. I noticed a very strong undertone that would pop up when playing the A on blow 5. When I got it to settle in I realized it was the reed in hole 2 vibrating. I am wondering if this is because it is a low harp, because it is actually in tune, or both. The 1-4 blow combo does this also but it is less stable.
If I play a 2-5 split octave I can hear a beat frequency at about 3hz, so the octave is properly tuned but not perfectly tuned. the 1-4 octave has a beat frequency a bit faster, but still pleasant sounding. I have heard that 3hz is what piano tuners shoot for on beat frequencies of octaves.
So far I love the harp. I am just curious if anyone else has noticed this and perhaps used it to advantage. Another thing I like about the low harp is the way the reeds keep ringing after hitting a staccato note.
