I posted a week or so ago about getting my VHT Special 6 and how happy I was trying it out at home. Well today I went to the bands usual practice and I was running a chorus pedal through to the VHT and not getting enough volume from it. I admit I did not increase the volume on the pedal, but the drummer suggested I run my bullet mic straight into the amp, which I did. Well throw away the pedals and compare me to a welders dog. I was too blinded by my pedals to try that straight up. That beautiful tone and breakup I've been seeking for years has finally emerged in the form of a Chinese wired amp designed in the US and purchased here in Australia. The comment from our illustrious leader was "feels like a totally new band". What can I say. only that if you don't have one of these and are thinking of a small, almost gigable amp, then look no further. Straight out of the box, as mine is, they are the gnats nuts. Go for it.

I bought a VHT a few days ago, and use a Harp Break with it. I played it at a jam Tuesday night, and had plenty of volume. Nice tone, easy to carry, great amp for the money.

The VHT Special 6 amps are great in their stock configuration. I found the Jim Rossen mods made it even better. Even if you choose not to do any tone altering circuit mods, the one thing I would recommend is to add a line out to it. Jim Rossen explains how to do that on his website. Here's a link to it: Jim Rossen VHT Special 6 Mods

I will certainly consider alterations and especially the line out. I've checked the suggested ebay site and read the details. Does sound like a good thing. Thanks for the link.

Mine is stock except for the tubes, 5751 jan Phillips preamp tube, and a old sylvania grey glass from the 50s I think. The sylvania tube seems to have really warmed the tone up ,plus got the tube for cheap ($5) on eBay . I agree that these sound great even with the stock tubes and speaker. But swapping the tubes does wonders.

Eharp, welders dogs are probably blind due to watching their masters at work. I was saying I was blinded by trying to get the sound I wanted via pedals.
