Hi all,
I recently purchased an EV 630 mic off ebay, with the original cable. Everything worked fine for about a week, but then the cable started shorting out. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement cable, preferably an adapter that converts to 1/4 inch jack? All I was able to find were adapters on ebay that go from the mic to XLR. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you can solder you can make your own or fix the one you have. If you can't solder learn. It's very easy. If you don't want to fool with all thiat there are cables on and adapters on eBay for your mic. And other options.

Is this a Low-Z mic or High-Z?
If you don't feel comfortable soldering to repair your current cable, I suggest contacting Greg Heumann. His website notes that he can make cables, and the single pole Switchcraft screw on to 1/4" plug cable he made for me is durable and has far outlasted any of my repaired cables.
He might need your connector to do it. Really, get in touch with him and discuss the possibility... it will be worth it! ----------

I never had any success over the long term with soldering a 5/8" screw on Amphenol to a cable. Maybe my solder was too soft but it continually failed at the solder joint. this is why I like the 5/8" to 1/4", I have used one for nearly 2 years now and it's never let me down. Plus I can use any guitar cable. ---------- http://www.reverbnation.com/jawboneandjolene

I have 2 of the adapters and find that they work fine, though they make for a longer extension off the mic. I gave my 3rd adapter to a lap steel player who's cable failed during a gig.
If you use a stick mic or use a screw-on volume control with a bullet mic adding the adapter can make for a long extension off the mic that is not flexible. A cable is more flexible and does not stick out as far from the mic.
My experience in repairing my own cables was the same as yours, but then I bought one of Greg's reinforced cables. I have used that same cable for 5 years and it is holding up fine. None of my repaired cables lasted nearly as long.
The EV630 cable mentioned in the OP is a specialized cable for a pistol grip EV630 mic. I have one and made a pigtail cord out of the original cord.
The adapters for that mic may not be as readily available as the Switchcraft/Amphenol 1 adapters, but even so, I think Greg's cables are a good option. ----------
