I am looking for some inspiration regarding recording music. Anyone have any favorite acoustic studio performances?

Specifically, it would be great to check out some folk, rock, or Americana with acoustic guitar and harmonica. I am interested mostly for analyzing the use of stereo mixing, reverb, etc.

Thanks!

You could check out "Koerner,Ray, and Glover" on youtube. Tony Glover's harpin' fits those bills.

Try "Po' Girl" - Awna Teixeira plays just about everything, including harmonica.

Nathan James & Ben Hernandez play solid and effective harp to acoustic blues and gospel flavoured material

Sassparilla from Portland play old time blues/bluegrass with harp and a slightly punky edge

The Wiyos play alternative blues/Americana, with some beatboxing

Spare but not acoustic, check out Paul Reddick. Blues and Americana. One of the most original roots songwriters imo.
Here he's playing some Johnny Cash

ok, just read the OP and see that you're more after studio takes - but hopefully something here that might inspire you to check out the albums

I'm listing some of the absolute essentials in my book (that first come to mind, that is).

Anything by Filisko & Noden
Anything by Guyger & Oscher
Hot Tuna - At least the first 2 albums
John Hammond Jr. - Rough & Tough (Check out the setup on this one, I think they recorded the whole album with just 1 high-end condenser mic, which is pretty interesting)
Terry & McGhee (duh)
Sonny Boy II - Keep it to Ourselves (fantastic album from the later days)

The Kitchen Synchopators. Not a duo act, but IMHO probably the best roots harmonica street buskers ever. Band is defunct now but guitarist has moved on to the Old Crow Medicing Show. Also The Blue Rider Trio, also defunct, but awesome stuff with great harp.

Here in Norway we have a acoustic act called "Moss Blues Trio". Just search YT and you'll find more videos. The harp-player is Richard Gjems, one of Norways best players, and a guy that can play lots of styles :)

Frank - I think that's the late John Alex Mason, with Gerry Hundt on harmonica

I recommend the album Mason & Hundt, or any John Alex Mason albums
