Thinking a bit more about Cristelle, I am sure that many of us suffer from the "concentration syndrome" or some affliction that impairs that joyful communication between player and listener. Some people are better at least, in communicating good vibes than others. I would compare a number of YouTube vids. Some connect more easily to the audience.
It would be interesting to hear from the forum which aspects of various performers appeal to each and why and maybe how it perhaps influences your playing. Or how one psyches oneself up to be better (more relaxed at least?) when playing in this regard. Frankly, I don't do as good a job as I would like to, maybe mostly because my playing is not what I consider to be good enough. So I concentrate too much. Maybe I should drink more? At least to practice more.
In any case, working the audience or at least avoiding certain thoughts is an important part of the act so not to communicate negative vibes.

Christelle is someone I can listen to every now and then, but I seriously prefer not to think about her, or her crying on Youtube etc -- that tends to detract from the work. And every time this forum or Harp-l appear to turn into some kind of support group for various performers with "problems" that are of no concern to me I look for other stuff. Perfomers that like to piss the audience off have to be really, really good for it to be worthwhile listening to them in a live context, say. And we may always, as the emperor said, "admire the work while we loathe the artist". Probably best not to think to much about that aspect of artistry and, as you say, practice more. (As a dedicated drinker I´m also always in favour of drinking more, but I know that is not a laughing matter for some people.)
