I have a JT-30 and it has a pretty hefty baffle in it between the grill and the element.1. What is this for ? 2. Will it change the tone if I take it out or put some holes in it. I have an old Green Bullet and it does not have a baffle in it at all.
Are you talking about one of the new Roadhouse JT30's? The baffle inside a JT30 is usually just made of thin material like cardboard or similar. This helps to dampen some of the higher frequencies and protects the element a little from moisture. It won't really change the tone that much, but you may notice an increase in treble which is not really preferred for harp. Just take it out and play through it like that to see if you prefer it. If not then just put it back in.
