I have owned so many freakin amps over the years and I always dream about a couple I used to have and sold. Fact of the matter is my band is gigging a lot so I need something with some power. I am looking for a large Danelectro or Premier, Silvertone, Valco amp from the 50's. I had a premier 88n once and regret selling it. I have had some killer danos too with 4 6v6's and 15in speakers. Please help me find something. I am tired of luggin the PA stuff around and tired of looking. I know I posted this before months back but I am still looking. Must be 50's and must be atleast 20 watts. I have cash and plenty of cool mics and elements and other amps to trade

yeah thats my only problem is I cannot thrown dont $1500 on an amp unless it was something incredible like a Commando or Premier 88. I have never owned a big gibson and they are so expensive that I am scared to throw down the doe for one

Tweed Fender Pro. Rick's suggestion of the Gibson GA-90 is also right on.

Nothing against one but I for one cannot stand a blues jr. They just don't have any natural sound to me. An amp with an overdrive just does nothing for me

Yeah you know its weird I have never had luck with black and brown fenders. I have a friend who has a vibrolux that sounds incredible for harp but ive never had any luck. I had a tweed princeton and champ and they were both awesome. Not loud enough. The thing is it is not about my band being loud because we play at a nice low volume it is just a lot of my gigs are in big rooms so the sound just has to carry. Plus I am a sucker for a cool looking old amp. The new stuff and the fenders were just kind of boring to me. Not to say some of them are not killer.

OK it's GC and you'll have to pay to ship but they've got some stuff that fits your criteria. Check it out.

Other then that you're into the hassle of e-bay or Craigslist or flea markets and yard sales.
Good Luck with your search.

@Bigtone

You handle vocals too, right? How do you monitor those? Don't those run front of house? You should have no problem with a small amp then.

Before moving to all pedals, I played a VHT Special 6 miked with a four piece rock band. I just fed it through my monitor. I never ever had to worry about being too loud. I then got a HG2, which was super awesome, but found that I wasn't gigging and had no need for it.

In very large venues I use a PA but most of my gigs I use a old Masco PA to sing through. I also plug my guitar into it for the Guitar Slim tunes and Elmore stuff.

@rbeetsme: I love your sense of irony, but I'm not sure everybody will love it--or even get it--as much as I do.

For the record, I AM NOT SELLING MY BASSMAN. Won't happen.

I started an April Fool's Day thread on the subject and assumed that it would be taken--and remembered--for what it was: the opposite of the truth. Apparently that hasn't happened, or maybe it's just the dry wit of certain members that is keeping the lie alive. To repeat: I AM NOT SELLING MY BASSMAN.

@Adam - I got the joke. I saw it that day you out it up haha. I couldn't buy it anyway if I sold my car every mic and amp I own anyways haha. Never played through a real tweed bassman for harp. I used to work at a shop that had real bassman, bandmaster and about every other tweed but I did not play harp at the time which is a shame.

Have you thought about a new Mission? Harp-specific, needs no mods, full warranty, probably cheaper in the long run

Adam, just found this. Of course I knew it was a joke. But you know me, always willing to run with it. Bigtone, now that you've moved to the left coast, still looking for that big amp? BTW: that Dano Challenger you sold me appears to be the same chassis as my Commando. Good match, thanks.

A 1955 fender baseman. If I had that amp, I would never sell it either. I saw a harpsucker video in which he compares a vintage 50's bassman with a bassman ri on the same settings. There was an obvious difference. The 50's bassman had a nicer warmer tone. Can you mod an ri to get it to sound like a 50's bassman??

Yes the RI was brighter but as Harpsucker stated in the vid, brighter probably due to newer speakers in the RI but the tone is very simular.

Personally, I prefer the slightly brighter tone. Remember the HS vid is only a comparison of the two amps. In real life, you probably would not hear this difference plus you can EQ for more bass or less treble.

Certainly any amp can be modded. You can spend a lot of money chaseing a sound if you have to pay someone to do the work.

I do mods at times but I also feel that learning to work with the tone the amp has naturally, has merit also. To each his own...BN

That picture of Little Mac was shot for a Cd cover. That Cd features some great harp playing. I know a couple of people who were involved in that session. That amp was not used. I was told it was a prop for the photo shoot.

The CD title is High and Lonesome. Little Mac was dead on during those sessions. Some of the baddest harp he ever put down. He was also a great songwriter and singer. If you dig Blues, it is well worth owning.
