I was playing a gig for the last two days in Florida, and I was visiting a large local music store. We got into a conversation about harmonicas, and they told me they had a nice vintage brown bullet, that was still in the original box, so we made a deal. They said it worked well, but it has a wire attached with a two pin Amphenol plug, so I could not try it out. The "Original Box" said it was a model 440 controlled Magnetic Microphone, which I know is not the right box, because the mic say it is a Shure Crystal, especially designed for recording, Model 9822B.

I just got home and researched the mic, and according to Green Bullet Mics.com, it is a very high output with a hugt bottom end. They also said it is very rare to find one that works. Because of this, I had very little hope that my purchase was a good one. So, I hooked up a 1/4 inch jack to the amphenol with alligaor clips, and hooked it to an amp, and it works great. So, I guess I won one for a change. Now I have to figure out what I want to do with it. Any suggestions?

Very, very rare to find one of those old Shure crystals working these days. Consider yourself lucky and PLAY IT. It will die sooner or later whether you use it or not, so if the element is strong now, live like there's no tomorrow. Just don't drop it!!!!

I also have a Shure brown bullet 9846B stamped on the tag. It has it original crystal element stamped 41. and it is the strongest element i have ever heard.I didnt use it for a while as i had to come to grips with its raw power. 3 years on its my go to mic and its a privilage to own it.It gets treated like a indangered species.

You should be careful with that mic. I had one from 1955 and decided to put a longer cable on it. In the process I fried the crystal. USE A HEAT SINK when you solder, in fact if you can avoid it just use the original cable. Heat, extreme cold, and shock will also kill those great old crystals.
