PRESS RELEASE
Suzuki Musical Instrument Manufacturing Co. Ltd. and Brendan Power wish to formally announce the end of Brendan's five-year stint as Suzuki's International Harmonica Specialist. It has been a very productive period for Suzuki's harmonica department, with the release of many new models in whose development and promotion Brendan played a big part: the Fabulous diatonic and chromatic models, the Sirius chromatics, the Manji and Olive diatonics, and most recently the ground-breaking Suzuki SUB30 UltraBend.

Suzuki's sales have risen significantly in the time since Brendan was hired, and the company's profile has been enhanced by the respect he enjoys in the worldwide harmonica community. For his side, Brendan has gained a lot in many ways from the experience of working closely with one of the world's premier harmonica manufacturers.

It is important to clarify that this is not a dismissal or a resignation, but rather an amicable parting of ways. Although the decision was a tough one to make, it was made mutually for the benefit of both parties. Brendan has thoroughly enjoyed his time working for Suzuki but now wishes to pursue his own specialist harmonica projects. Suzuki wishes him well in his new direction, and the two parties will continue to cooperate in matters of mutual interest.

I'd say Suzuki have lost a valuable asset to their company. I wish you all the best in whatever comes next Brendan. I have no doubt it'll be something great though.

Brendan, Thank you for your accomplishments at Suzuki. Your contributions were undoubtedly critical to Suzuki's amazing run over the past few years and some of the real game-changing products they have developed. Suzuki was both wise and fortunate to have you.

As harmonica players, we face today an unprecedented choice of high quality instruments. Healthy competition is a good thing for customers, and with three big producers - Suzuki, Seydel, and Hohner - we should witness on-going innovation and continuous improvement.

We will be watching for your next project - be it music, instrument, or community -focused...

His time zone is entirely different depending on his physical location considering he travels so much.

No, it's not a prank! Thanks for your support; I'll have some interesting new harp stuff to announce in the coming months as a result of my renewed independent status. BP

Will this have any effect on your X-Reed harmonicas? I know that Suzuki supplies parts for your x-reed harps (I'm assuming at some sort of wholesale price rate) and I assumed that part of that arrangement was made possible by your position with Suzuki. I'm assuming this won't have any affect on that arrangement (since the Sub30 was based on your design, and it sounds like you still have a good relationship with the company), but I just thought I'd ask just in case.

I already have 1 Sub30/x-reed harp, and I've been having a lot of fun with it, and I definately want to get more. To be honest before I tried one I wasn't sure if it was something that I would actually use, but when i tried one I was amazed and I'd love to have a full set to use as my main harmonicas. Once they've been set up well (embossed, optimized reed profiles, gapped, etc.) they are amazing, and very close to what I would consider the "ideal" harmonica for me. I'm a very good overbend player, and I initially just got the Sub30 just to try out and play around with, and I assumed I would have some fun with it, but I figured in the end I would still prefer playing a standard harp with OBs. But I found out that being able to get those extra bends is so much better (IMHO) than using overblows and overdraws. It allows types of expression not possible on a standard harp. It just opens up so many possiblities, you can easily play in all sorts of positions that would otherwise be difficult and awkward, and play things so much smoother than if you were to try it with overbends.

Hi REM, So glad you're digging the X-Reed SUB30! Coming from an accomplished overblow player your assessment is significant, as you have a good basis for comparison between the two approaches.

I'd love to hear what you're doing on our X-Reed harp; any YouTube or MP3?

To answer your question: We have plenty of raw SUB30 stock and no problem getting more in future. We also have some cool new stuff coming out in the next few months, so stay tuned. BP

Can't say that I blame them. When an endorsee turns into competition, why continue the relationship?
