I can't tell what I like best and why. I think the compressed tones are much fatter, but less articulate and have less cut. The bullet clips sound great on most fronts, but the single notes on the bottom are too mid-heavy. The SM58 feels the less dynamic, but that is a pretty flexible sound.
Bottom line is I am doing mostly acoustic stuff right now and plan on just playing the 58 into a Zoom G5 with the tube boost on, lol. That would mean all the stuff from these clips will collect dust. ---------- Mantra Customized Harmonicas My Website

Mike, thanks for this. I got a Harp Break recently and so far I have not found a use for it with my Concert amp. I hear a digital/analog dissonance that I haven't been able to dial right, especially with delay. I also got a Octave and I really like it for cut and feedback control (~10%) but the conflicting overtones are even worse with the Break and Delay. Maybe no surprise there, I'll have to work on settings. Regardless, the idea that I can run the Break through a PA is a great option for quick set-up to sit in but I'm even more interested in it as a second mic ready to switch to when I am also running my amp. It will be a great way to get a completely different sound.

My only ambition is to use it through the PA, which I have done in a full band context. Sorry I can't help more regarding using it as a distortion in front of an amp. ---------- Mantra Customized Harmonicas My Website

I did get mine to play through the PA but also because I liked JR's demo with it and his Bassman.

How well does the Harp Break do clean? If you turn the drive down can you still get a good sounding bass boost? ----------

I tried it out last night at rehearsal. I will eventually post something, but to be honest, nothing we chose to record had much harp. We were going through arrangements of new tunes and I hardly touched a harp.
At first, I thought it was too dark with a SM58, but upon playback of a couple of tunes, it sounded really good for cleans. I was going for more of a warm acoustic sound than clean-clean. If you listen to the last clips with the SM58, you get a general idea. That was with the drive at 2 o'clock and I had it at about 10 o'clock yesterday. ---------- Mantra Customized Harmonicas My Website
