I always need music to play along to, and here's my new solution. I plug my iPod into the 1/8" input on the Crate, and plug the turntable into the 1/4" input. The amp can use an extension speaker, so I hook it up to the Kustom cab with 12" speaker (the Crate has a 8" speaker).

Loud enough, and mono!

That's a great idea, I do it all the time. An amp like a tweed bassman (L&R into seperae channels) can make asurprisingly good hi-fi...or, rather, mono lo-fi! ;-)

Guitar/harp amp speakers aren't always great for doing this, but can sometime compliment hi-fi speakers well.

@LuckyLester - It was a precursor to the compact disc, haha

@MarkBurness - That's a great trick with the Bassman- L&R into the two channels. I just got the Crate, and it sounds kind of like a boom box with the music coming out of it. It was so cheap, I'm thinking of putting a 8" Weber speaker in there just for fun.

i have an ipod nano my daughter gave me. about the size of a postage stamp, i plug it into my amp for background music while i play through the same amp. very nice, especially with the mini-3 which i can take anywhere.

@garry Mini3 looks cool - how exactly do you use it in your set-up? Do you plug the nano into the Mini3, and then the Mini3 output goes into a regular guitar amp?

no, i just use the mini3 for practice. it's great for that. my real amp is a vt-30, and the mini3 has the same models and effects, which makes practices more accurate with regard to the sound.

i can play without waking anyone by just plugging in nano and headphones and taking it into the garage. weighs about nothing and runs on batteries. take it anywhere.

Update cause I saw a related thread:

Put a Weber Alnico speaker in the Crate FlexWave 15, the amp with the aux input. Sounds great - is my first Weber and Alnico speaker. I like the combo of solid state amp and Alnico speaker. Makes the music playback better, and harp with Retro Rocket sounds cool, even using the amp's distortion channel.
