Gents

Any tips exercises on developing throat vibrato? I'm an intermediate player during pretty well with my licks but a big black hole on long notes that I need to fill with some nice fat vibrato. It looks do natural when I see others do it, but it's not coming naturally.

Will it come when it's ready, or is it something you can develop?

As always, thanks for the generous help I get on this site.

Vibrato does not usually come without a lot of time spent on learning the technique, so don't stress over the not coming naturally concern.

I suggest learning where the throat muscles are that control the clearing of your throat effect. Once you have isolated them, start to pulse them slowly and gently. Finally, practice this while inhaling, always with strong diaphragmatic support.

Find a teacher that can sit with you one on one to help you fine tune the technique.

"Will it come when it's ready, or is it something you can develop" (Pauly22)?

The answer is both. Your vibrato will sound like backwards choking cough, then year later slightly smoother backwards choking cough, then years later crappy vibrato, then some more years slightly better vibrato, and so on.

So, keep practicing, do whatever vibrato you can do every time you hold any note, and one day down the line someone will ask you how you got such good vibrato.

Don´t expect early results. Finding a smooth, controlled vibrato is sort of the coeur de filet of harmonica playing and it is not distributed generously.
Personally, I loath my vibrato and I´m constantly looking for ways out of it. It works for blues but elsewhere no, laughably bad.

Thanks, guys. I've actually developed some halfway decent diaphragm vibrato. However, I realize the sound I want comes from the throat. Does anyone think continuing the diaphragm vibrato will cause the throat vibrato to come later, or not at all?

I use two way`s to put vibrato on notes single or octave splits.drawing in you can kut-kut-kut and it creates a form of vibrato from your throat.than from your gut, solar plexus ,you can get it bouncing on draw or blow and you have a great vibrato. have fun ,do it to it...
