I am seeking comments on the Fender 15 watt Blues Jr. amp to be used for small venues...quality, sound etc. Thank you, Mick

Not bad, but a Pro Junior is better

A lot of harp players like them because they are cheap, some spend way too much time and money trying to improve the sound, I gave up on mine, never sounded right for me. You can buy one, do the tube swap, re-wire it, replace the speaker or just buy a Harpgear 1 or find a nice Champ.

My advice is invest in the '65 Princeton Reverb Reissue. Way better amp than either the Blues or Pro Jr by miles.

What's the $$$ ?
I've seen a few harp players use them, and was unimpressed. Either too loud, or no presence ( for harp ) at lower levels. I don't know if these were modded/changed in any way. Guitar players seem to do OK with these. It just seems to me that everyone is paying more for the name.
rbeetsme...what is the tube swap you tried? If the price is right, one might try 12AY7's in V1 and V2. Don't know if this is self-biasing, but if so, then flip out the new power tubes for a pair of matched used ones if available, or new JJ's. Obviously, all the other variables apply: mic, room, lineout or cab miced.

I bought a hundred dollars of tubes and swapped every which of way. Sounded decent at best but squeled like a panther on stage when i needed some volume....all small gigs. Bought a Kalamazoo..ok amp..small 7 watts. I missed the bottom end sound of my old Bassman i had stolen so i broke down and bought a Sonny Jr Cruncher. Lot of money but im not getting any younger. Incredible amp.

I bought one early on in my harp playing career. LIke others, I tried tube swaps. Sorry - this is simply not a great harp amp. It is STIFF - a sweet spot at one level of play per volume setting, but play harder and it gets harsh and quieter and it can't be heard.

I have a FBJ and it was not cheap rbeetsme, but then I'm in the UK and we get screwed on price every which way.
No FBJ is ok if you swap tubes to low gain or it will feedback. The trouble is my harp friends hace a bassman and a sonny and once you've heard those, forget it.
However I have mic'd thro' pa for gigs and its ok (no more)
My advice spend the money on something good, especially if you are young to lug the weight around

Guitar center has dropped the price on the Fender Champion 600 to $150. Swap the pre-amp tube and clip out the tone stack. Sorry, doesn't answer your question, just throwing it out there.
