My family and I are heading down to Pensacola Beach and will be there Friday evening through Monday morning. Any festivals down there this weekend? Any forum folk with gigs? No promises, but I might be able to stop by and listen.
Harvey, didn't I see that you and your quartet were working down in Pensacola at some point recently?

On that same note, I'm moving to Valdosta, GA in two months (4ish hours from Pensacola)...not finding too much online for blues in that area, but imagine there would be...so similar question as Adam's for Valdosta.
Adam, I have a friend in the Pensacola area. I'll ask if he has any ideas.

Valdosta. My limited experience with it would give it a D for blues. It's a typical blues rock mentality at best. I have played a few private events there recently and they went well but we didn't play much blues. There does seem to be an atypical throwback interest in old alternative early stuff. Example being that I met a group of people in their 20's who were into Beef heart and swing. Crazy. That's interesting and hopeful, to me, but certainly the exception. Valdosta is seriously the South. Where are you from?

Haha. I hear that often about Valdosta really being the South. I'm military, so from all over...originally from up and down the west coast. I've never been to the South, really. I guess I'm hoping for a bit more of a blues scene...or at least a chance to get involved and get a bit better from week to week with other musicians. I've played in bluegrass and rock groups, but enjoy piedmont-style blues most.
Thanks for the info, Littoral. And sorry for sort of high-jacking the thread...

"And sorry for sort of high-jacking the thread..." Sure AG is ok with it. Adam, Fort Pickens is a really cool place. The FloraBama is a classic venue but I don't know what they're up to these days. My last trip there was sitting in with Johnny Shines. Name drop, sure, but a good one. Seville Quarter has been good to the blues for a long time so maybe there's something good happening there. Food. Jacksons Steak House is awesome. Tell Chef Miller that Jeff, harp player, sent you.

Yes, we play at Paradise Bar and Grill on Pensacola Beach several times a year. We are not playing there until April 3 and 4th. I don't know the band that is playing there this weekend, but I am sure they age good.
Also, down the road on the Florida, Alabama line is Flora-Bama Lounge. Music most of the time on one of four stages.
Have Fun.
