Hey folks, A lot of the playing I do in London is on the street, particularly at the local flower market on a sunday, but of late we have been getting shut down and threatened with fines from the local council, and this, as you can imagine, has been giving us the blues... The Local residents have set up a petition to save the buskers and I was wondering if anyone fancied signing it. its a massive help to me and other local musicians
You may have some success if the local residents lodge a complaint with the council. I'm also a career busker and often find that it's the individual Council officer who causes the trouble. These people simply view it as their job to clear the street of any life, music or joy. Often they go over the top. When I was threatened with a fine, I said 'Well write me out the fine mate and then let me get on with my life' He hesitated for a few seconds and then comes back with 'I'll have to get the police and seize all your gear' Well of course he has absolutely no power to do that. cheers, Mark.
