Just been doing a side by side A:B comparison between these speakers using an Epi Vj head, 4ohm output.

The difference is really quite marked. The vintage series speakers seem "stiffer". And maybe they are actually. I've been using them for a while but just at bedroom levels. The signature series speaker is an unknown quantity in terms of how much use its seen.

Yeah so it's not really an equal comparison. The vintage series cab is a twin, quite a tight enclosure , each speaker has just 2" from the rim to the closest part of the box all around, with 2" between the speakers. They are front-mounted. The cab is 19mm ply, open backed.
The signature series speaker is mounted in an HG2 cab sans amp.

But the sig is louder, and darker I think. Seems more inclined to break up easily, but maybe that's because of its greater sensitivity. The tone of the vintage series speaker seems to me a tad more "aggressive", like a saw with longer teeth.

I don't know which I prefer though. They both sound good. I decided I better give it a rest, probably annoyed the family enough for a while.

There are so many variables. And I found it very difficult to convince myself I knew what I was hearing, let alone describe it in meaningful terms for others.!
What I think I'll do is perhaps record the various 8" speakers (i have a few different 8s) and cabs using the one amp. That's possible because it has 4, 8, and 16 ohm outputs. I realise that's a variable in itself but...
Of course the soundclips won't be accurate reproductions of what I hear, but perhaps they'll be enough to hear the relative differences between speakers.
Whether I can be bothered putting the speakers in the same box for the test is a good question. I suppose if there is to be any point at all, I should try to remove as many variables as possible. Oh well, it may take a while. I ll get back to you when there's something to share...

I've come to the same conclusion.
I've used both for a while and the first impression stay. The Sig is louder and darker. But after it's broken in, it got a little more treble.
The 8A100 have a better mid bite and a softer treble
And it's not as loud as a sig8!

Arne, I think that's quite a good description of what I was hearing. The sig was simultaneously darker but with a more ringing top end.
