Jason has been keeping busy with some studio work in the last little while, and four tracks on NEW YORK MINUTE, a new CD by the Jay Willie Blues Band, feature his playing. My favs are "You Hurt Me" and "The Wobble." The former cut features an extended minor-key solo that I could take to a desert island and occupy myself with for quite a while. There's a wealth of inspiration and musical knowledge buried in that cut.
"The Wobble" is a straight ahead rocker. JR's stuff is more sideman than lead, but it's a model of how to fit into the pocket, support the cut, AND stamp your imprint on a song.
The CD as a whole is okay. On some cuts the drummer, Bobby Torello, bashes away rather than swinging. I know that BBQ Bob, if he heard the cuts I'm talking about, would say "Rock drummers don't know how to play blues." They do--but it's a different kind of blues; on-the-beat blues, not sly swinging blues.
I'd urge you to check out the CD. It's arguably worth buying just for that one minor-key track, cut #4:
The great Bobby "T" played for a awhile with Johnny Winter, I think during the period Pat Ramsey played with him. Well, Bobby "T" ain't SP Leary and based on some of the youtube clips of Jay Willie Blues band, they are a rocking blues band rather than a swinging blues band. My brother was talking with Neil Gouvin, drummer with Sugar ray Norcia and asked him how he does his shuffle/swing thing and he told him "that's what I do , all I do , all the time." Sugar Ray and Otis Grand and the blues community agrees. Check out one of the best blues drummers in the business today.

Bobby T probably doesn't do this for the same reason my brother can't, they know so much they have no restraint to do the economic thing that blues drumming takes. Just my two cents.
Adam thanks for starting this thread and helping out Jay Willie! Here's that minor key track, Key of Cm - Bb in 3rd position to start ends with F in 2nd. Gear: Suzuki Manji's, Harp Gear 4-10" amp, Samson Wireless (Greg Huemann), Ultimate 57 (Greg), Lone Wolf-Harp Break, Lone Wolf-Flat Cat, Dry (no delay or reverb):

I don't claim to be a Jason Ricci expert - duh - but for my money, that was the best Ricci I've ever heard. encore!,please! Why? It's tasteful. It's soulful. It's complex and mucho interesante while being contained and straight forward. This is where I'd like to see this man continue. Muchisimas gracias.
"Correction: Key of Am (3rd position=G Harp) then: 2nd position ( C Harp) sorry. Meow"
Hmm, sounds a lot like Gm to me ... (Low F; C), unless quite a few of my instrumnents are REALLY out of tune. No bigger deal, but if you´re a beginer and trying to make it work with a G harp it could prove troublesome.
