I remember hearing from billy branch that jrwells only had 1 lung due to being stabbed....Im sure he was limited as far as harp playing in that he did not use too much breath force...also a little walter quote"I just use little wind and navigate up&down these reeds"I was crucified by this forum before but continue to insist you can be effective harp player without blowing hell out of your harp

Actually,Jr's lung collapsed from bronchitis,which turned into pnemonia.
Now-Little Walter is blowing with one lung on "Super Blues"-more likely the person who was stabbed.

Gotta be tough JR-most people have a tough time with both lungs!!
Keith Relf from the Yardbids also had only one lung.

Junior was stabbed, according to Buddy Guy's autobiography. Pepper's Lounge 3 am; his then girlfriend, a married woman, put a knife in his back. Apparently her friends said Jr. was two timing her, and the other woman was "with him" in the club. BG says "the other woman" was there but Jr. didn't even know it. "She lunged it in so deep that it punctured his lungs." BG says Jr. was a changed man: "...broke my heart to see him so changed." "Me and him was ham and eggs. But it didn't take much for his eggs to get scrambled, burning up my ham and scorching the frying pan."
"That stabbing aggravated his soul. He became an angry man, and when his anger got mixed with liquor, there was hell to pay."

Playing with a reduced lung capacity is mighty tough sometimes. I have emphysema and luckily I quit smoking years ago, otherwise I doubt I'd be around now at all. Sometimes playing those fast runs can really take it's toll on you.

I used to smoke 5 pack of ciggy's a day, since i lost one of my lungs i've cut my smokin in half.

five packs a day? holy shit, 100 cigarettes a day? that takes effort , my friend, concentrated, deliberate effort. congrats on cutting back.
