A few weeks after Amanda's Rollercoaster Steve was in Denver to headline the Rocky Mountain Blues Harp Blowdown. (I was one of the "also appearing" artists, way down the list.) Steve was in town for several days and I got to hang with him a lot. One of the nicest guys I've met in the business.
That's Dan Treanor playing guitar, whose band just a few weeks ago finished 3rd worldwide in Memphis at the IBC.
Steve is a wonderful player, and I only have one of their CD's. I really loved that posting by Oxharp.
I also have seen clips of one of my personal favorite players, James Harman, with Monkeyjunk at the 2011 Ottawa Blues Festival. They are a clearly a great band for a harp player to work with.
Steve is a local boy from Ottawa, I've seen him many times. Most people I'm sure, aren't aware, that one of his new weapons of choice is his baritone guitar, he can really lay down a low swampy grind down on it.
I recently saw him playing baritone guitar with a new project of his,the Chaffey brothers, up at the Black Sheep Inn, in Wakefield Quebec. On one of the tunes, Steve is laying the groove down with his baritone, and his amp dies,, he realizes it's dead in the water and that his lead break is coming up in the song,, he grabs a harp from his rack and gets into the swing of the song on harp, now playing through the vocal mic on the PA, he than lays into an improvised harp solo filling in the blank for his missing baritone,, it was fantastic watching a consummate professional work under pressure,,props to him, well done
I've been lurking here a while, thanks to everyone for sharing their knowledge so freely,, I only became member, because I wanted others to know just how good Steve really is.
Taint no "hobby" for Steve...He's runnin with the BIGDOGS :) You can usually tell which players are kinda just fuckin around, even if giggin you can tell their more of a hobby type player...Steve ain't pullin no punches and boxin with the heavy weights.
