He's going to be here in Indy tomorrow and I am going to miss it. I end up bumping against this more "Americana" style of music as I play with more and more musicians in the surrounding areas in middle Indiana.
I would do anything to have this stand up bass player in my band.
Oh yeah, they are a great band and such a good live show!
I managed to catch up with their harmonica player Ryan after a show in Newcastle, UK a couple years ago, I was intrigued by some of his high end playing and he was good enough to show me some tricks. Great bloke and a really good harp player!
Have you the version of this by The Memphis Jug Band? Will Shade on harp.
Pokey delivered as usual. Last time I saw them, they played in a coffee shop, about 30 people came. Small PA, one amp, nice intimate setting. This time it was a capacity crowd at a small club, very loud! Good energy from Pokey and the crowd, but harder to see and hear. The harp player also plays a variety of rhythm and percussion instruments, very entertaining. Not a great harp player, mostly first position chord stuff, but he does move up and down the scale a lot. What always ceases to amaze me is how the crowd goes nuts when the harp player takes a brief solo. Outstanding band with stellar musicians and the average player brings the house down. I'm not complaining, but, maybe more bands need to hold the reins on the harp player a little more loosely.
