For you amp builders or restorers out there or maybe someone interested in recovering an old amp, I just found this great tutorial on covering an amp head in Tweed.

http://www.guitarscanada.com/amp-building-technical-repair/43327-tweed-cabinet-build.html

It's a little simpler on his amp head then say a Tweed Champ or Princeton style combo, but a great lesson on tweed covering and doing the corners up nicely.

Just thought I'd share.

Scoltx, are you doing or planning a project with Tweed? I just finished an amp head in Tolex. It went well. I have considered trying Tweed and was hoping to hear how it goes for you.

That is a good tutorial. I still have ?s about corners and matching the Tweed. If I do it, I probably need to buy enough to cover it twice.LOL

Yeah covering makes me nervous too. I've got a buddy building two Tweed style cabinets for me, but it's on me to cover them. I just ordered a couple of yards of Snakeskin tolex and some black grill cloth, like Rick Davis' 5F2H that he used to have.

Ordered from these guys.

They are out of Michigan, they offer tolex in widths less than 36 or 54 inches at reasonable prices. They also have a link to a good tolex tutorial as well.

I'll see how the tolex goes first then attempt tweed on the next one. I do like the look of laquered tweed.
