Hey all
We've recently added the Randy Newman tune Louisiana 1927 to our repertoire - great song.

I'm wondering if anyone else plays it, as I'm not sure which position to use. It sounds fine (to my ears at least) playing cross harp, and hitting the usual 5 draw flat 7th

I'm aware though that the song uses the natural seventh in the verse, with a prominent run down (G - D/F# - Em), as well as a B7 in the chorus - the song is in G by the way. In theoretical terms at least this would seem to mean to my limited musical knowledge that I should favour the major seventh over the flat-seventh note.
I've tried some 1st position over it, and it's ok - though my cross harp playing is a lot better so I prefer it. Also I think I'm so used to the sound of a flat-seventh in my playing I probably use it even when it's clashing.

If anyone else out there has played it just wondering what position you use - 1st or 12th maybe?

I play it and sing it, and do most playing in cross harp, using the 5 OB to get the natural 7th. I sometimes will play part of the solo in 12th or 1st.
