Ok so out here in TN I find lots of microphones a lot of them being just cheap CB mics from probably all the truckers and cb shops around back in the day. I find lots of the Box mics and the molded mics and probably 40% of them have low z cm's or cr's. Anyways I found a 99c86 the other day and I thought I wanna try one of these transformers and see what it can do. I ordered a Hiz Shure transformer on ebay for $14.99 shipped. Has anyone had any luck or any good things to say about doing what I am going to do? Positive or negative i would like to hear what the harp players opinion on these. Thanks for the help guys!!

Impedance transformers work very well and make those Low-Z elements sound fine to me. Some people say they aren't as good as a Hi-Z, but I reckon if you blind tested them most people couldn't tell the difference.

I have tried a few that I have pulled out of other mics, and used with low z CM's; seem to work fine for me; as Kingley says its hard to tell the difference.

Thanks guys. I had heard mixed reviews but most say they sound great. I feel stupid that over last two years I have basically givin away low Z cm's and cr's by the dozens for like 10 or 15 bucks. I could have simply bought transformers and had some more good mics. Thanks for the info!! I'll repost when I get it in and run it against a cm and cr and get the scoop.
