Just got the recently released Jimmy Reed tribute CD by Omar and the Howlers, featuring the late, great Gary Primich. This is a completely different approach than the "Jimmy Reed Highway" album Omar and Jimmie Vaughan did a few years ago.
I'm on my second time through, and whether your are a Jimmy Reed fan or not, Gary plays some really nice harp on nearly every track of this album, at least to my ear. Highly recommended.
Make sure you check out Gary's version of "Going to New York", "Honest I Do", or "High and Lonesome" if you can.
I got the 2-CD anthology album of Gary's "Just a Little Bit More" for Christmas, it is also an excellent collection for those who like to hear his playing as it changed over the years:
You are absolutely right Johncn. There is some great Primich on this release. Matter of fact, Omar mentinons in his liner notes that his reasoning to release another round of Jimmy Reed covers (his "Jimmy Reed Highway" w/Jimmy Vaughn is fabulous) was because it contains the last cuts that he did with Gary in the studio. I've got a review of the disc at my blog list in my signature. ---------- Ricky B http://www.bushdogblues.blogspot.com RIVER BOTTOM BLUES--crime novel for blues fans available at Amazon/B&N and my blog THE DEVIL'S BLUES--due out soon
