Microwaving or boiling any harmonica is as dumb an idea as it gets. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
First, putting anything with metal parts into a microwave puts on a good show, but in the long run does not do the microwave nor the item any good at all. I put a container of leather treatment into the 'wave once, not noticing that it had a metallic-content label on it. You can amaze yourself at just how fast you can lunge for the "OFF" button!
Boiling is not a good. The high temps could release any stress in the plates and reeds which could lead to a very long re-gapping session. And let's not even think about what that would do to a wood comb.
The Seydel Silver 1847 harps are supposedly dishwasher safe on the top rack.
As a last resort, I have taken some very unresponsive reed PLATES and boiled them for a short time...1-2 minutes, and then immediately immersed them in icewater to temper ( use tongs ). Works less than 50% of the time. Better than 0%.
I have microwaved moistened sax reeds to loosen them up, but that's beside the point.

Actually, the Seydel website maintenance section says that the harp should only be rinsed with cool water with the covers off, and never completely submersed. There is no mention of "dishwasher safe" on their site or in the owners' manual. FYI.
