I'm looking for someone in the Albany, NY area (Albany, Renss, or Columbia County) who can teach me how to flatten reeds properly to make them more airtight. I could also use help with opening the backs of harps neatly and refining my gapping. I play SP20's. I buy customs but would like to be able to make my own "semi" customs. Willing to pay an expert customizer. If interested, email me at olearytoo@aol.com

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm not a great visual learner unless I'm working hands on with someone in person. This is especially true with fine motor stuff. I might still consider the Skype thing though.
I get what you say about hands-on training. But if you can't find anyone locally, this video is super-easy to follow and not that hard to learn to do. You can get excellent results in a short period of time.

Quote from the page: "There is only one thing you need to do to make the reed plates fit the combs perfectly. Sand the draw reed plates on the side that faces the reed plate (the side without reeds) This is a simple process that you can learn to do by watching the video below that I prepared for you on how to install the comb on your Crossover, MB Deluxe, or Thunderbird harmonicas.
Disclaimer: This video is not perfect. I am a harmonica technician, not a film maker. It gets the job done, but it ain’t Hollywood…."
