I hope it's okay to mention this website here - if not, please forgive me. It is a great resource with harp lessons from Jerry Portnoy and guitar lessons from Duke Robillard and Corey Harris. Not having availed myself of lessons by others which I am sure also great, I won't claim that this is the "best" resource out there, but it is sure a good one. While there is no one on one lesson - skype or otherwise - you have the ability to ask Jerry (or the other instructors) questions, post videos of your playing, and participate in an active forum. For me, probably the best part is the choice of songs that Jerry works on - this week it's Walter's "Mean Old World." In the past he's covered other Little Walter songs - Juke, Just Your Fool - Sonny Boy I and II songs, Jummy Reed, Howlin' Wolf, etc. His method is great - the first week he just puts up a version of the song - both his and the original artist - and suggests that you listen and play along until the song is in your head. In subsequent weeks he takes apart sections of the song, and culminates with a backing track with no harp. Depending on the song, the process takes from three to five weeks. One selfish reason to tell people about this is to get more harp players participating - there are tons of guitarists who are active - not so many harp players. Anyway, as I said, I am sure that there are many worthwhile teaching forums online (Adam's lessons for one)- this is certainly one of the best. Rich

Jerry Portnoy is one player who seems to be often overlooked by many people. Which is something I've never quite understood. He has superb tone, great chops and is one of the best classic Chicago blues harp players in the business.
