Eric Clapton once played most of a concert vertically: he was too drunk to stand up! ----------
There's a lot of hubbub about this really loud, horrible-sounding, what-they're-trying-to-call blues. And people make a big stir, and sometimes it sells but, eventually it fades away because there's no meat.
Excellent Michael! At first I had a dim idea of what you were getting at, but that last 53 seconds of the video lit everything up, and I recognized a problem that I have been thinking about for along time. Now I have some lexical references to help me to get a better grip on the ideas that I have been thinking about.
This might be old hat for a lot of guys here and pretty fundamental, but for the right person at the right time it could be a handy insight. Very good of you to explain all of this so patiently.
Any idea when that kickstart CD will be coming out Michael? Many thanks.
Chickenthief, You're welcome, thanks for the kind words.
As to the kickstarter CD. I will send a message to Kalu for an update. Last I heard, the tracks were recorded, but still had to be mixed and mastered and the band was looking for a label to put it out.
as crazy as it may seem, even though I fought hard asking people for donations, I otherwise have absolutely nothing to do with the business of the band. I have been with them for 6 years and on 2 CDs, but basically I sit and wait for a gig call. Kalu does many gigs solo, many as duos or trios and only 1 or 2 full band gigs per month. There have been periods of intense practicing where I have been called to practice alt least once a week for months, then long periods where I am not asked to practice. I show up at the gig and if there is a new song, I improvise.
Basically what I am saying is, don't ask me, how should I know? However, I want to see the CD probably more than you do, so I'll send him a message.
One more question if you don't mind Michael. I've been playing scales on chromatic harp in the way that you suggested back in one of your earlier videos, and it has been over a year now, so I thought that I was getting pretty good at playing them from memory, but a couple of months ago I was surprised to notice that while I'm ok at 150 - 230 beats per minute with the metronome I have all kinds of trouble playing scales from memory at under certain beats per minute. In other words when I turn it down to 40 - 80 bpm I can't hardly play most of those scales from memory!
Since noticing that I practiced up a couple of scales at slow speed and I'm doing better with them now, but it gets pretty slow and tedious practicing scales at that speed.
Is this something that needs to be learned right away? I'm worried about wasting too much time on something like this. I'm something like an intermediate student and I already spend upwards of an hour a day just practicing scales and arpeggios on chromatic. Although I would eventually like to work up some fluency on chromatic my first priority is blues played with diatonic harp so I don't want to get too distracted on any other kind of stuff that might burn up too much practice time per received benefit.
Thanks for reading.

Chickenthief, \Really interesting. I am guessing when it gets too slow your mind has to focus on the beat and that focus takes from your memory. I would not worry about it. Can you also play major scales in 1st, second and third on diatonic? If so, Get all your mixolydian scales on chrome.
Here are some scales I use at nearly every gig of my life: Mixolydian 1 2 3 4 5 6 7b 8 Dorian 1 2 3b 4 5 6 7b 8 Aeolian 1 2 3b 4 5 6b 7b 8 Harmonic minor 1 2 3b 4 5 6b 7 8 Blues 1 3b 4 5b 5 7b 8 Minor pentatonic 1 3b 4 5 7b 8 Major 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Major pentatonic 1 2 3 5 6 8
"Can you also play major scales in 1st, second, and third on diatonic?"-
Nothing like where I'm at with playing major scales on chromatic harp. I was hoping that playing scales on chromatic would get me out of playing certain scales on diatonic harp for a little while. I have been doing light practice on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, blues scale, and a few pentatonics on diatonic harp. I don't even have 3rd pos. scale, or any pentatonics memorized. I'll get to work on all of that right now and I'll try and figure out how I need to get going on the modes you list.
I'll also get started on the videos that I haven't yet studied in your series.
Thanks for your time Michael.
