Here's what you can do thru a P.A. with the right sound man.
This an outdoor gig in a park, and if you look close, I'm playing thru a Danelectro Nifty Fifty, miced with a 57 via the P.A.

Lumpy - Maybe instead the caption should read "Look what you can do with a camera in between songs!" :)

Bluzharper - Do you have any recordings that we can hear of this gig?

To prove what can be achieved with a good sound man though here's an example of David Barrett using a small 5 watt Supro amp at an outdoor gig.

I used a Dirty Thirty several years ago and had just hell with feedback at any but lowest volume. A sm57 or 58 was way too hot so I went to a cheap condenser mic that worked ok.
I have a Nifty Fifty here that we plug Jolene's slide guitar into and it sounds really great with all that breakup and distortion.

I know I look awesome on stage, but I really do play. ;>)

I don't have any video of that gig, my relatives might I'll have to check. It was taken in my hometown the weekend of our family reunion. I use to gig with that rig, a Unisphere A model 585 into a Danecho into the Niftyfifty. Best sounding solid state amp I've owned. At that time I owned a Bassman R I, a Blues Deluxe, and a Blues Deville. It was the drummers band, "Scott McClaine" from Chicago. He ran the sound and asked me if I had a smaller amp. Guess the guitar player couldn't stand the fact my amps were bigger than his, LOL...
