Long before I started playing guitar, I always noticed that Sterling MaGee has a pretty original sound or at least a sound that I've never heard before. I have no idea what's going on when he plays. Is it all 6th chords, 9th chords, 13th chords, and their articulations? Does anyone who also plays guitar or is a guitar player have an idea toward what he is doing? If one wanted to play guitar like Sterling, in what direction would they go? I'd appreciate the insight if anyone has it.

He does have a great sound,I would listen and watch his videos, ive often wondered what he's doing myself,He goes from playing stuff up on the front of the guitar then throwing alot of chords rythems up higher on the neck in a progression,Ive thought maybe 9th or even just double stop intervals,But im not sure myself,I could see 9th or maybe 6ths,Im not sure what a 13 th is,But im not the best player to break his style down,I cant hardly play anybody stuff besides my own,But its a interesting question,Im sure theres some players on here that can help you more than I can,But you cant go wrong with listening to alot of his playing.

Check out this video from 4:20 on:

That's typical of what he called his "three-octave style." He uses a lot of open E forms.
