Howdy i was wondering if i could get some tips on my playing. The story behind the video is i was in my 1st band The David Castro band i been playing the harp about 3 months and they had a show at cains Ballroom in tulsa oklahoma and the deciced to release me they felt i wasnt ready.Which i probelly wasnt.I added some vocals and harp to one of Tony Eyers jamtracks he provides at our online harmonica school for recording projects.I been playing 6 months when i recorded it.I know it probelly has to much harp in it but i just felt like playing and was mad about getting released.Feel free to tell me like it is.thanks Hobostubs name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ec6uVjD_wks&hl=en&fs=1&">

Honestly I liked it. Even found some humor in it :) . You got that get out there and do it attitude at 3-6 months playing that's great! I'll probably remain in hiding till after my 5th year, lol. How sad.

Here's a tip and one everyone probably does. Continue practicing scales.

LoL tookatooka thats fat and ugly not big and mean.Yea RyanMortos i need to work on my scales ive been practicing the basic blues some,i have charts for others but untill i get it down like i want im sticking with the basic 2nd pos blues.I dont know really where i stand with being in a band theres no harp players around in my town so they were easy to impress but i made the mistake of telling them i only been playing 3 months and we did 4 gigs but then they had a nice gig at a well Known spot and they got nervous i think it would have been allright had i not said i only been playing 3 months.they play progressive acoustic rock not really bluesy i just kinda followed the progression.been playing guitar 15 years and never played in a band.So i kinda got a late early start.but hey its fun to go out and try even though you know that you might be over your head.Playing harmonica gives me the courage i never could muster on the guitar.whether i suck when blow a harp or blow when i suck at harp i firgure life to short to not have a little fun

I figured since I'm big, mean, and originally from Tulsa, that I'd need to comment here.

First, I'd just like to say that you have some balls for wanting to get on stage after 3 months of playing. You certainly have a musical ear and timing.

However, what I didn't hear was much attack on your playing. It sounded like a bunch of noodling instead of purposeful playing -even though it all fit. Now I might argue that you were trying to sound like Big Walter in Have Mercy, but he had great intentionality to it and also had great attack in other parts of the song.

Also, your bending and playing are very forward in your mouth making it sound pinched. You need to work on opening up and bending further back in you mouth/throat.

My 2 cents of advice.

Of course, all of these come with time, and you are well on your way.

In the future, I say just don't tell anyone how long you've been playing and let your playing speak for you.
