I just picked up a premier 50 from the 60's. The rectifier tube was broken in shipment and I am not sure what it was.

The amp has a 12ax7 7591 and then the rectifier tube and capacitor Can.

Did that amp take a 5y3gt? The pin out matches a 5ar4 I have

Thanks for the help.

It used a 6X4 rectifier.

Thanks Rick I am going to order one. How does that compare to a 5y3 or 5u4? I assume you cant substitute.
Also, do you know if the orignal speaker was 4ohm or 8ohm? The replacement in this amp is 4 ohm but I saw a schematic which shows 8 ohm but that schematic also did not show the rectifier tube. The amp is also modded with a speaker out.

Also what 8 inch speaker would you recommend for this amp?

EDIT: Just checked some pictures of the 6x4 and it is not what was in this amp. See the picture below. It has 5 pins.

a 6X4 is a miniture 9 pin tube. A friend of mine has one with a 5V4, but has no idea if it's original, no chart. I would think if the pin out is correct a 5Y3 would be the way to go. My friend has a Kendrick blackframe 8 in his, sounds great for guitar, never heard harp through it.

Your first guess seems more logical...

There seems to be as many configurations of "Model 50s' as there are Champs, Deluxes, twins, Supro Supremes,etc...

My friend has a model 50 like the one above and another that has a 6L6 with a 6X4. Seems there are solid state rectified model 50s as well.

Yeah, I'm finding that the Multivox amps (Premier, Marvel, etc.) were pretty flexible on design. I think they changed with the supply of parts, maybe from the lowest bidder.

528Hemi, that is not a 6X4. I'd try a 5Y3 instead. I don't know the ohms of the speaker. One of the schematics I linked to says it is 8 ohms, but my Marvel amp (which was also made by Multivox during the same period) has the same 12AX7 - 7591 layout as your Premier and it has a 4 ohm speaker.

It's a crap shoot... Not much info on these old amps.

This is probably obvious to you, but just in case:
Be careful of fit if ordering an alnico speaker -- it looks like the tubes are pretty close to the speaker (hard to tell depth in the photo).

I ordered up a 5y3GT.

@TetonJohn, The speaker in there has a huge magnet and there is still soem room. I should be abel to fit any 8" in there if that speaker does not sound good.
