IT is almost COMMON KNOWLEDGE these days of how important it is to have a reeds profile and gap adjusted accordingly for optimal playing results.

But I don't recall...."Optimal" CLEARANCE at the 'Pad end of the Reed'... being discussed- pros and cons...

Is there an optimal clearance where the end of the reed meets the pad?

Where a thin shim should have the ability to be slid under each reed and be able to be pushed all the way up to the pad of the reed...

And this clearance should result in the reeds performing at their optimal level...

What are your thoughts on this reed adjustment procedure? Thank You :)

Kinya pollard messures the clearence with a shim at the end of the reed. I dont think it is any tube clips of it thou. He does it in the harpsmith series on David berrets site.

Richard Sleigh says you should be able to slide a .001 shim under the pad end of the reed and feel some resistance.

Which is the "pad" end? To what pad are we referring?

That would be the "rivet pad" Arthur... maybe this technique is more common then I thought? I gotta get out of this cave :(

just checked the clearance on a B-Rad in "C" and then on a Crossover in "A"

They both seemed to be at a snug clearance when using a (.0015) slid up to the rivet end...That is the thinnest shim I have!

Just tried another crossover and I can snugly slide a (.002) shim up to the rivet pad...and it plays very nice too...
