If I'm not mistaken most, if not all, of the pump organ (or parlor, or reed, organ)reeds were considerably larger and thicker than harmonica reeds. The later ones were also made of plain, rust prone steel. If you want to try your hand at making reeds, go to a flea market and get a bunch of old wind-up Timex watches and use the mainsprings. They're steel, too, but they are closer to the right size. Have fun.
