I arrived home from work today and lo and behold I received my Jan. 2013 flyer from Musicians Friend which interest me as I like to check out new gear etc..Anyway my mind was blown when I saw a 7 harp set of Marine Bands in the natural keys that have been played and hand signed and played by Bob Dylan. They come in a inlaid presentation box, handcrafted exclusively for Bob Dylan with his distinctive "Eye"logo on the lid.I do have a very great respect for Dylan and I,m sure Hohner made him an offer that he couldn,t refuse, but to throw a little spit on 175 harps. I wonder if it was a first for him to play alot of the keys other than C,s,D,s or G,s.I guess customs don,t seem like alot of $$$ after reading that today. Is anybody here considering a purchase?

C'mon Bee you know you want them^

Dylan sure has strayed a long way from his mentor/idol Woody Guthries' socialism
Can he be that short of the readies that he needs to do this sort of stuff?

I'm sure these are not aimed at harp players, who would know better than Hohner that getting a harp player to spend money is like trying to pass off an upper middle class white boy as a "bluesman". Fun fantasy, but it isn't likely to happen.

Considering a purchase? No.

$25,000 for some crappy harmonicas with a terrible harmonica players name on them? No, I am not considering a purchase.

I think Hohner needs to start brushing up on their mathematics, there is NO WAY that $25,000 is the ideal selling price for these harmonicas.

"Well, my daddy, he didn't leave me much, you know he was a very simple man, but what he did tell me was this, he did say, son, he said..he say, you know it's possible to become so defiled in this world that your own father and mother will abandon you and if that happens, God will always believe in your ability to mend your ways."

I wonder if this is the kind of thing Bob's Dad was referring to?

I remember seeing that on T.V. Bob sounded drunk and there followed an uncomfortable murmur through the audience. They were clapping and laughing as he walked off.

That's the way I remember it, anyway.

They came out in 2009, there are 25 sets and they are still pitching them.

My take from the beginning has been that they are for the ultra successful aging boomer that's a serious Dylan fan, I fit all categories except the "ultra successful" part. So if I had a corner office with bulletproof walls and glass overlooking lake union, I might want to have a hand signed box of "Bob Dylan" harmonicas on my desk or credenza to impress the guests. I believe I have worked in the offices of all of the wealthy CEO's in Seattle that you've read about, except Paul Allen, and that's what you sometimes see there. Art and other object displayed to impress. Certainly not true of everyone though, the CEO of Amazon is the ultimate anti materialist, to the point of tacky. On the other hand one very famous software mogul displays art I had only seen in books belonging to my art student/teacher friends. I'm sure once a Paul Allen or a Howard Schultz has these on display the others will sell as well. The biggest question I've had about these is why they aren't being handled by an art dealer instead of the
K-Mart and Wal-Mart of music retailers

@ JD
Yeah i think you've nailed it.
We have a local CEO of an Ad agency who has a Dobro (which he paid 15 grand for) hangin' on his office wall.
Big Bill Bronzy used it on a tour of NZ way back when.
It has never been played since.
