"I'm talking about the Blues, not that monkey junk."
HA!
I just saw "It Might Get Loud" the other day, a documentary on the guitar, featuring Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), The Edge (U2) and Jack White (White Stripes and The Raconteurs). In it, White talks about taking inspiration from Son House, and plays a cut of SH singing and clapping (no instruments). White was totally moved. The doc is well worth seeing, even if you hate Page for Zeps blatant rip offs.
I always liked Sterling McGee's take on the blues. I'm paraphrasing here cause I don't remembe it word for word, and I don't have time to look up the YT clip. But it was something like:
Blues music doesn't have to be sad...being sad and depressed is the "Grey's". Don't whine about your woman leaving you, 'cause if you'da been actin' right, she wouldn'ta left.
"The bait is getting so deep, I can smell the worms from here!" -RGB
"When a man says, 'Women are just evil,' it's the same as complaining that a magnet draws iron filings... maybe you shouldn't blame the filings- It could be the magnet's fault." -RGB
"The Blues ain't about making yourself feel better. it's about making other people feel worse." - B.G. Murphy
"A man once told me you shouldn't hit a woman. I told him ya' shouldn't say that until you've met every woman there is to meet." -Anon.
