It is a cleaner mic and have a weaker output compared to 533 and 545.

Clear highs and a big bass. Good for combinate song and harp.
Very good to high gain amps when a hi output mic just give feedback.

Its most known as "the James Cotton Microphone"

I like 585's, I have several. Should you decide to try a 585 I have a few nice clean good working 585's to sell, I have both HiZ and LowZ they are not switchable they are different mics.

The Shure Unisphere 585AV, low z with volume control, is my favorite mic. It uses the same cartridge R85 for both low and high impedance models and for versions with a switch instead of volume control. It has a cleaner tone with good lows. It is more feedback resistant than a bullet mic. I have used it with tube amps, solid state amps, and PAs. In a pinch you can use it for vocals. Here is the spec sheet:

Shure 585AV (and 585BV)

I've used a PE585V since 1975. The "V" simply means it has a built in volume control. I play it through a 1962 Fender Concert, and they sound good together. I like cleaner sounding mics generally.

Cheers,
