Some things in life are to be savoured, and this is one of them.
I joined a new band by invitation a few months back and the guy (Tony) running it knows exactly what he wants from the band and knows how to convey that without offending anyone.
The sound and the colour we are already getting is nothing less than blissful. Oh man, how refreshing.
What are your experiences?

Our singer/frontman/ bassplayer owns an ampeg bass amp bigger than my refrigerator. When he plays, its so loud that the structural integrity of whatever building we are in is seriously at risk. Then he complains constantly about not being able to hear himself sing, so that he screams into the mic he is singing through, which is always at feedback threshold. He insists that the rest of us know the structure and arrangement of the songs, and stick to it, but he rarely follows it himself.

Our guitarist usually comes in about half way through the second or third bar of his solos, and is either ear bleedingly loud or you can't hear him.

Apart from that, its all good, and we usually have a lot of fun.

i have been at both extremes. fortunately for my ears and club patrons the people i play with- Jolene in one duo and Bluesboy Jag in the other with occasional drums and bass in that duo as well- keep the volume reasonable. in fact Jolene sometimes is too low in the mix and has to be turned up.
i once sat in with 2 guitarists and drums and bass where it was this loud: i could not hear myself right in front of a '59 bassman i was plugged into with it nearly full volume. i swear i saw mortar coming out from between bricks that night.

my hearing is not worth that kind of abuse. neither are my harps. neither is an audience.
