I just won a Mint in box JT-30 bullet mic on ebay with original cable. First question is are the original cables any good to use? It is a single contact screw on on both ends. If the original cable is good where can I buy an adapter for it so I can plug it directly into my amp? If the original cable is not decent quality, where can I buy a decent cable with a screw on on 1 end and 1/4 on the other? Should I buy a screw on volume control for this mic? This Mic looks to good to use. Hopefully it works :)
I just checked some options
1) buy an adapter to convert the end of a screw on 5/8 to a 1/4 inch and plug it into the amp.
2) Buy an adapter to connect to the mic to convert to a female 1/4 and use a standard 1/4 inch patch cable.
3) Buy a cable with a 5/8 screw on and 1/4 on the other side.
What do most players use?
Thanks for your help.

I've frequently seen players using an adapter to convert the end of the switchcraft screw to 1/4 inch. I guess that would be option 2 on your list. If you need I could recommend a link to purchase from for about $12. Once you do that you have a few options to connect your mic from there. Your third option would work but sounds rather limiting to me in comparison.
Edit:
Actually you mentioned volume control also. Check These Cool Things out if you want to add a vc.
My two cents...

i just had a mic modded, the connector replaced. i had greg put a 5/8 screw on into the shell, and bought a 5/8 to 1/4" to screw onto that. i use a standard patch cord. works fine and i have no worries about a custom cable failing in the middle of a show. if a 1/4 patch cord fails there are usually a few lying around most places where music is being played.
my own preference re a volume control has always been either none at all, or a small volume pot installed into the mic shell. i had greg put the right value pot into my latest mic when he modded the connector for me. to me he advantage has been i have instant control of my volume without moving much except a single finger. this is vital sometimes on stage.
i have a couple of peers here who swear by a volume pedal. i tried that but it's just too much hassle for me.

The original amphenol screw on connectors are not good for gigging. If you step on the cord, the soldered connections break really easily. No way you can fix it on the fly. With a screw on 1/4" adapter, the guitar cable just pops out. You look stupid for about 5 seconds while you plug the cable back in, but you can finish the gig.

I use the adapter so I can use any standard guitar cable.BlowsMeAway makes the screw on V.C.,which I also use. Makes life a lot easier. Here's one link for the adapter: http://www.jt30.com/jt30page/eacstore.html

Thanks to all. I am going to buy the 5/8 to female 1/4 inch adapter and use a regular patch cable. Will see if I need the VC after that.
