I'm willing to believe some of them have uneven combs. Mine is good in that way. My issue with the comb is different I had a marine band and the comb swelled. I took a knife and pared the comb back. This removed the lacquer and left a rough unpleasant feel on th tongue when playing. When I play the manji, I always remember that marine band (and smile about how MP installed a blue corian comb and made a very good harp of it) ----------

You can't always see "air tight". For example, the light test fails for checking leaks along the tines. There is also the issue of self-taping screws and the leaks they can cause.
I just sent a Manji in C back to Hetrick to be cleaned up and shipped to a famous player. On his list of wants from a custom was a better 3 draw bend. I only mention that he is famous because he is someone considered to be skilled enough to adjust to different harps.
The sweet spot is different on many of the Suzuki harps. It takes time, patience, and more know-how than a Hohner to get it right.
On most hand made Hohner's now, even the most remedial gapping will make a huge difference. You have to fight the Manji to get the same effect. The same is true of the overbends on an 1847, for example. It takes more work/insight to get it locked in.

Ordered one of the crossovers on sale. Can't wait!I have one Manji that i really wanted to love.Had really hard time with 3 hole bend.Well at least it looks cool.
I expect to have to gap any new ootb harp. However, Maybe i'm crazy but given the price i don't think i should have to fight my harp to get it to play well.

Wasn't me then. One of the nice things about having me doing the repairs and adjustments of harmonicas at Suzuki is that I actually play the instrument professionally. I'm not there every day but Daron is a nice guy and will certainly take your call--and I will call you back if there is any issue with the Suzuki harmonicas that we can help you with. We are hardly the only harmonica manufacturer. Nevertheless I do believe we have a superior product to offer. Just to bring this thread back to the subject line I have not tried the Crossover but look forward to playing one. Thanks for bringing the issue of the flatness of the comb to my attention. Just to restate my rhetorical position--Suzuki has a one-year warranty on all our products and we want you to be happy.
