If you're wondering why I'm marching in place in this video, it's not because I've gone mad or anything. I sat in on Ben Bouman's workshop at the NHL Bristol festival and he gave some great advice on rhythm, a part of which was to literally walk around in time to the beat - and it clearly had a huge impact on the volunteers who tried it. So the marching is a) for the rhythm and b) to walk without walking out of frame. (The silly neon effect is there because I like messing around with YouTube's editing tools, such as they are.) The general 'stomp' groove is definitely something I've tried to pick up from Adam - though there's no way I can manage to run up and down the harp the way he does while keeping the groove going (this stays well within the first six holes); the wah is an attempt to rip off the one Filisko does on the Busy Man song Laurent posted; and the heavily cupped 3/4 bend is from Wade Schuman on 'Man Trouble Blues' - and it only took 400 takes!
This is a great blues stomp, good friend. Nice tempo, assured rhythm, effective choking effects and bends. Great work. ---------- TED BURKE http://youtube.com/watch?v=-VPUDjK-ibQ&feature=relmfu
Couldn't you stomp on boxes or cases so as to obtain another (lower) rhythm sound? Your last wah is close to Filisko's one, good job! Now, something that's not about the point, I hear a harsh slight noise that comes from one of your reeds, from around 1:10 to 1:28: a kind of rattle...
I like the marching dude. I find i can keep the groove much better when i do this and i relax and find the groove easier. I thought i was the only one who does this. I tend to reign in my marching for a video but from now on i'm going to do whatever i can to stay in that groove.
Thanks guys. @Laurent - annoyingly, the rattle sound is because of my phone's recording quality. It distorts quite easily. I have a different recording on my youtube channel that sounds cleaner, but I eas more consistent with the rhythm in this version.
