heard of this fella because I play upright bass and a bassist on a board I frequent mentioned being in awe of getting to play with some great musicians.

enjoyed this vid and I'm always happy to see an upright backing up a blues band rather than a slab player.

When is this guy going to come out with a CD. He really is a UK version of Kim Wilson. Great swing, phrasing etc.
The fact he works on harps even make him more credible.

@1847 "i think their is a west weston harp amp

I think you may be confusing it with the "Westside Andy Lindeman 4x10" that Holland used to make?

West has done *a* gig with a Holland many years ago, a modded Gibb Droll owned at the time by Pete G Welland.

West's usual amp is his early 90's RI bassman, rewired with an eyelet board to the 59/RI circuit, plus bias pot (done for reliability reasons, rather than pursuit of tonal Nirvana).

He also owns a SF Bassman 50 head that was set up by ear testing certain components...it has more in common with a late brown bandmaster these days, he has just put together a 2x12" cab that sounds great with it.

Touring with Mud this year, he also used a Twin Reverb. As with any regular gigging player, who's work takes him overseas, he has to use a wide range of amps, always pulling a great sound out of all of them.

"the harp has a pure tone
classic jt 30 Crystal element" He stopped using crystals for stage work a long time ago, normally using CM & CRs these days...but he has an extensive mic collection, probably has most of the commonly used elements & shells.

The Jools Holland show is next Tuesday 20th and Friday 23rd, BBC2.

Man, do I dig that first video (actually,I like all his videos.) They have the West Coast sound down better than a lot of players here on the West Coast do.

I,m hearing some Lynwood on the vocals on the first video What Yall Think? To my half deaf ears, thats what I picked up on.Great player/performer and lets not forget the backbone,The Band.I know this is a harp forum but to me alot of times the Band gets disregarded somewhat,Does anyone remember Shawn Starsky and the rest of the fellas, yes Buckwheat gets mentioned but?Another topic eh?BTW I,m a Huge Jason fan.No dis whatsoever. As far as looking like William, the boy would have to put some serious meat on his bones the compare to Big Bill.
