The reason I don't have any money for low harps, btw, is I just finished saving up for, and acquiring a Greg Huemann rebuilt Kalamazoo amp.
I've never owned a tube amp, or a decent mic, but after reading all the reviews(on this forum!)for Greg's Ultimate mics, I saved my gig money, and finally sent him my old 57 to be Bulletized and Ultimatized. I was so happy with his work, and the results with my playing and sound, that I decided it wasn't enough to just have the mic. I needed a real tube amp, too! Which one? Something smaller as I play small venues, reliable, and not too pricey...hmm...a Kalamazoo! Five or six months later, I got one.
I'm sure Greg doesn't need more names to add to his waiting list for these fabulous little rebuilt amps, but I just gotta say that I am really happy with this amp. It makes the cheap solid state amp I've been using sound like a dry twig.
The Zoo is warm and full sounding, clean, but with plenty of crunch and bass response, when you close your cup firmly. With a Danelectro delay/reverb pedal, the tremolo setting on the Model 2 Zoo, and the Bulletized, Ultimatized 57 with the volume control, I got all the tone, effects, and volume I can use. I also have the line-out option on the amp, if I ever need it.
Having a rig I am happy with, I find that I actually leave it setup at home, and now practice with it on a regular basis. It's like having a different instrument. I've previously been focused on improving the quality and response of my harps, and now I am working with the mic and amp more. Never a dull moment.
Anyway, I wasn't trying embarrass Greg, and I'm not affiliated...I'm just damn happy with his work and wanted to share my delight.
And how the cycle seems to work...you work on your chops...eventually you need better response from the instrument, so you get better ones or you improve them yourself..your playing goes up a notch...but to keep the improvement consistent, you gotta work on your chops again...then you realized the delivery system needs upgrading...so you research and begin to acquire better gear, which you have to learn to use, and then you suddenly sound more present so its back to working on your chops...etc., etc.
