A while back, there was considerable buzz about this amp. It was supposed to be the best small amp for the money, with great tone for the harp.

To those of you who own one, how do you like it? How loud is it, compared to other small amps?

Thank for your input.

Hi John

there is a recent thread here: http://www.modernbluesharmonica.com/board/board_topic/5560960/4557889.htm which covers most things. It has a big following on here. I have one with the Alnicomagnet mod and after this week with a Lil Buddy speaker.

My feeling are its very much about the sound you are after. Even with the mods it tends to be smoothish, as others have pointed out it is not an equivalent to a Kalamazoo, which tends to break up easier. I have to admit I would prefer a bit more break up, but as I am in the UK, a Kalamazoo isn't an option.

It is loud, at home I only use it on the low power setting.... and at 10 oclock on the volume. In Europe it is selling for a 'no brainer' price, very cheap (£120).

All in all great value, for the price a great buy, but probably not the dirtiest tone.

Cheers

Martin

John, I much prefer the tone of a 6V6 amp (the VHT) over an EL84 amp (the K-zoo) but that is completely subjective. Libertad is right: The VHT is warmer and darker than the K-zoo, which is raspier and more distorted. Some players like that.

There are lots of examples of both amps on YouTube, so judge for yourself. The VHT is much better built and has a 5-year warranty.

I've heard both played at my blues jam and the VHT is louder with better tone (IMO) but neither is really strong enough for a loud jam. They are both best used as practice amps, and it is my belief that every blues harp player should own a ~5 watt tube amp for practice.
