So last night I had the band over to jam a few tunes, drink a few pints and work out some timing issues etc. etc. really quite laid back.
Now this is your average neighbourhood and for the most part we are polite and couteous and watch out for each others stuff but not really close friends.
My gear was still in the garage where I left it after Saturdays gig and so I just set up right there in the garage. They guys came in and they just set up in the garage too. We worked on some things like endings, timing etc. and as the hour progressed I kicked open the door to get some air through the place and to my surprise the whole street was set up out front listening. beer's in hand, umbrella's, lawn chairs, dogs, cats, kids, the whole shebang.
Well, The guys jumped all over this and we had an impromtu concert for about an hour. I got to meet some neighbours I didn't even know existed and funny enough there are a good number of them that are closet musicians and play some instrument.
It was kinda cool and everyone wants to hear the whole set list so we're on again for next Monday night. I can only imagine where that'll end up.
Out of it all, this morning I'm going to work and two or three of the kids (about 7 - 10 years old) were out on the sidewalk trying to play the harmonica. Now that was cooler then the whole rest of the night.
Just had to share. That's why I love doing this.

That's a great story. I think if it were me playing I'd have the neighbourhood outside my house too. Trouble is they'd be carrying pitch-forks and burning effigys.

Might be burning me in effigy tonight. We'll be at it again trying to get through 3 full sets of music as practice for Saturday nights gig. Saturday's gonna be our biggest crowd yet. 200 + people. Gotta make sure we're smooth and clean. I might check in tomorrow from jail, lookin' for someone to throw my bail.
Hmmm, there'd be a blues song in that for sure.

Feelgood story round 2
As we played we had a some people set up lawn chairs in the driveway, walk their dog from the next neighbourhood over and come up and tell us how much they liked the music and had all the neighbours stop by for a listen and drink my beer.... THEN....
Dum da dum dum..... about nine o'clock the neighbourhood grump came by and chastized us, in front of the remaining crowd, about their kids having to get up tomorrow and that we should stop playing now. Now, I am the only one on the block that doesn't have any kids at home anymore but the rest of the neighbourhood including those who were there, all have kids under the age of 15, and it is summer vacation with no school today for them. I'm not really sure what the issue was but being a good neighbour we bowed out graciously and shut it down but not until after getting the last three songs in the set.
To standing appluase I might add ;)
And, to top it all off, the kids that were playing around with the harp last week have now formed their own little band. two guitars and one drummer. So, I can honestly state that we have now contributed to the corruption of youth.
Anyhow, that's it now until the middle of august. Thanks for letting me share the stories.
Oh and noone had to throw my bail.

Hey X, That's a great story, thank's for sharing. That's one of the great things about music, especially when played at the grass roots level. It brings people together and promotes fellowship. Wish I could have been there.

LeonStagg, You can be there, get with a guitar player and a bass player and just do it. It's been the most rewarding experience I ever had as far as getting any recognition for the years of practice, and getting genuine applause. Nobody had to pay for it and noone had to even come out for it. They did all that just because they liked the music.
Get the music out there !!!!! And more importantly, Get the blues out there !!!!!
