I bought a Bullet mic and the dealer said it had a shure white label CR in it, when i got home and opened the mic up and the element was a Controlled Magnetic and the serial number was 99A86NE.
I traded the dealer a guitar worth 200 in my opinion and he could resold it for 350.
The mic was selling for $150 but the shell was a New Astatic JT30RH with the element put in. In my opinion the Mic was only worth 100$ because it has a shure CM in it. If it had a CR I would agree with the price.
So heres my question do you guys here think i got burned?

If he said it was a CR and its not...
well he is either dishonest or was mistaken, and either way should give you the option to return it if you're not happy.

Take it back. But why didn't you open it up on the spot before you bought it?

I didn't have a screw driver and it sounded good when i tried it out. Then when i got home and played it more i started to realize it didn't sound like a CR at all.

99A86' are among the best of the CM's, but they are CM's. A great CM can sound better than a mediocre CR. Still, if he represented it as a CR, then he was wrong and you have a right to return it.
On the other hand $100 would be very cheap for a mic with that element in it, especially if the builder did what was necessary to make the JT30RH "right" - which is to replace the volume control with one that is suited to the CM or CR (the built in 5M pot will work like an on-off switch) and deal with the connector if it doesn't fit Switchcraft standard components. Also a different gasket is required to properly fit a CM to that shell. ---------- /Greg

Do you know how to operate it? How does it sound?
If the answer to the first question is no, then you have work to do before you can answer question two.
If the answer to both questions is yes, then you didn't get burned. If the answer to the first question is yes and second question is no, you got burned.
By the way, a good 99A86 will set you back more than $100. You may buy a lot of mics before finding a good one. Not all elements are created equally.
