Hi folks. Brandon Bailey here. I just uploaded some brand new harp recordings to my myspace page today. I want to know what you all think, so slam away, lol. Excuse the audio quality, I was using an RCA digital voice recorder and Audacity.

first off. this is some kick-ass playing.

there are two things I would work on though (and I'm sure you do).

- control: you can never have enough of it...
- groove: sometimes you groove in and out. if you see what I mean. It should never sound as if you were just playing riffs or stuff 'learned by heart'. But you're doing pretty well here too...

so, allover, I really enjoy listing to your playing. a little bit more groove and you'll rock the socks off!

...and you'll also have your harmonica hit by the time you're 20 ;-).

after listening some more, I don't know of these points were justified...

there's really very little to critisize.

You've got some great talent going on there. No question about that.

Overall very good with great technique but I think you listen to Adam Gussow too much and you're own voice isn't shinning through.

At least Bubbling Boil had his own sound at 12

Don't Get around much anymore was your worst one. Lots of timing issues.

First off, gotta say you got a nice strong vibrato for blues songs, and a nice tone too. But... there are problems with timing in pretty much every song, i think you rush a bit in some fast parts, sort of trying to get it over with sooner because it's difficult :P. Take it easy on those parts.

Also, as a long time brass player (euphonium) I've learned the importance of tongueing. You've gotta get a stronger attack when you play the same note repeatedly. For me it's the most visible in Juke starting bout 1:24. I can hear you trying to play separate notes but what comes out is just one long sound which has almost a vibrato-like thing goin on. That might be okay if it was intended but in this case i don't think it was. So anyways, a stronger attack is something i would put some practice time on.

Overall, very nice. Just gotta say i'm not able to do that :P

Superchuker77:Firstly I have to say I enjoyed your playing.

For me perhaps on watermelon man there are alot of different ways to attack it on Harp. You do something at end of each chorus like Otis or Adam G almost identical.

I say that because many years ago on sax I studied and nailed Go, Album Dex Gordon,,Taking off, Herbie Hancock etc. There was a time when I became obsessed with Dexter gordon,Hank mobley,(Bird,Stitt)
Sonny Rollins, Ammons,Stanley Turrentine and a few others.

Heres the interesting thing they are the melting pot but I am closest to Stanley Turrentine in how I play, or so folk say, but I play Like Me,no one else.

Yet all along from the VERY BEGINNING Turrentine was the man I wanted to be like.

Kudzurunner mentions Hank crawford and a couple of others.

The point is I hear my influences in HIS harp playing,
and I never heard a player play like kudzurunner before.

I hear a lot of Kudzurunner in your playing quite distinctively which I like.

Is this style evolved through listening to jazzy stuff like Ray Charles Herbie Hancock records CD?or listening to Harp playing? I'm curious and I think interesting.

May I say again I enjoyed your playing, which I guess is one of the most important things.

Pullis: Thanks for the comment. 1:24 in Juke is a 4-7 octave that I am trying to articulate via. using vibrato. I'm glad that you picked up on it, thats a part that I have always had trouble with.

sopwithcamels266: Thank you as well. During a lesson with Chris Michalek last night, I discovered that everything that I play has actually come from listening to harp players. I'm sure that you can hear the people that I listen to the most in my playing.
